Artist Wanchay Itmis
Wanchay Chanthadouangsy Itmis is a local artist currently living in Elgin, IL. She is originally from Laos, a small Southeast Asian country, and has traveled the world extensively in search of clues to life's biggest and smallest questions.
Having lived many past lives, as a writer, attorney, business owner and entrepreneur, her greatest accomplishments to date stem from her commitment to life long learning and cultivating beautiful memories and meaningful relationships.
Wanchay's art draws from abstract expressionism, impressionism and nature landscapes and attempts to converge the faint memories of travel, dreamy other worlds and previous life existences onto paper and canvas.
"Postcards from the Universe" explores ephemeral moments of time that inevitably dissipate into irreconcilable recollections and showcases Wanchay's paintings, printmaking and charcoal drawings during her emergence as a visual artist and pursuit of an Associates in Fine Arts from Elgin Community College.
Wanchay is a Mom to a daughter and two dogs, a Sister to three brothers, an Aunt to amazing nieces and nephews, a loyal friend and art colleague to many and a citizen of the world and artist for all.
She is grateful to the Village of Bartlett and the dear friends at Arts in Bartlett for their support and this momentous opportunity.
Wanchay has previously shown at St. Charles Fine Arts Festival, Rockford Greenwich Village Art Festival, Dreamhall in Elgin, SideStreet Studios of Elgin, Chicago art gallery showcases, Skyway Intercollegiate Competition and secured a 1st Place in the 2D art category's 2023-2024 Elgin Community College Art Showcase.
Her painting "Bandirma at Dusk" was recently acquired by Elgin Community College and is currently on proud display in the ECC President's office.
