    String Art

String Art also called pin and thread art is a form of decorative art where nails are driven into a wooden board and thread is strung around the nails to form a delicate and interesting pattern.

This art form was invented by Mary Everest Boole, a self-taught Mathematician in the 19th century to encourage children to explore Mathematics. The interesting pattern that develops with curves formed by straight lines is fascinating.

It was picked up again in 1960s as a decorative art and has come a long way since then with artistes making seemingly complex designs and even portraits with string art.

The time spent in making even smallest piece and simplest design vary depending on number of nails and distance between the nails driven in the board and how many times thread has to pass through nails to form the design.

    LOVE OF THREADS

Having learnt String Art as a teenager, I picked up the art form several decades later in 2020 albeit on paper turning the pieces into greeting cards and exploring the art form creating many different pieces. Constantly exploring the designs and intricate patterns that can be made is time consuming but very satisfying. Working with different kinds of threads for different designs and combining various colors highly satisfies my creative side. In 2020, when some friends showed interest in my work and insisted on buying few pieces, I lovingly shared my ‘Love of Threads’ with them.

Encouraged, I picked up my tools and started using spare wood in my house to cut, sand and make boards to make string art. I now get entire sheets of wood and cut them in different sizes as per needs of the customer or the size I would like to work on. The pieces that you see here are all 100% hand made by me.
